Social Marketing Evaluation
1.0 Annotated Bibliography
1. Introduction
Over the years, marketing as a social and managerial process encompasses
businesses and organizations' social-environmental approach. The approach articulates
economic development aspects based on the promotions of products and services to
the consumers through diverse channels that are inevitably considerate of the
underlying factors (Levit & Cismaru, 2020). On the other hand, social marketing
incorporates marketing into societal inclusion as phenomena based on development
strategies through the social reform campaigns to promote health, economic
development, population control, environmental conservation, human rights, and
racism. It provides people with the essential mechanisms in tackling societal perceived
problems via the adoption of healthier lifestyles. Social marketing is attributed as an
approach responsible for behavioral maintenance beneficial to individuals and society
(Cooper, Junginger, & Lockwood, 2009).
Social marketing can be defined as the process of designing, implementing, and
controlling programs aimed at influencing the acceptability of social ideas considering
the product planning, pricing, advertising, distributing, and marketing research (Alden,
Basil & Deshpande, 2011). It can also be understood as the process where marketing
principles and techniques are applied in creating, communicating, and delivering value
, 3
to influence the target groups behaviors beneficial to the society in terms of security,
public health, communities, and environment of the target audience (Kotler and Lee,
2008). These definitions frame social marketing as a central focus of ensuring society's
wellbeing. It bases the emphasis on organizations to develop strategic marketing
decisions considering the societal interest for sustainable developments. The current
destructed environments, resource scarcity, social services neglect, and rapid
population growth trigger customer satisfaction to meet the societal welfare (Alden,
Basil & Deshpande, 2011).
The evaluation aims to point out the intervention's strengths and weaknesses
and determine how these create the difference that can be measured through the
investment returns. Detailed information sums up the notion that the original plan had
and what has been achieved. The communities are the key stakeholders of this
intervention. Thus, during the evaluation processes, some community members are
questioned to comment about the program's impact on their behaviors and attitudes
(Evans, 2008). The evaluation will measure the success rate that the intervention is
achieved, which could be short-term, medium-term, or long-term, attributed to benefiting
the community members through attitudes, knowledge, and behavioral changes (Evans
& Doug, 2008). Through the compiled reports of these evaluations, stakeholders are
facilitated with the opportunities for future investment and developments articulated
through the interventions mainstream in terms of thinking, practicing, and contributing
towards the better good. Evaluation is the last stage of the intervention process in any
campaign to digest the evident enhancement contributions of the involved parties
