Comprehensive understanding of Coronary Heart Disease dynamics

Coronary heart disease is prevalent among people aged between 65-74. According to the

Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 10% of older working-age adults (aged 65-74) have

experienced a growing burden of coronary heart disease, ranking the leading cause of the total

burden of disease among 65-74 age groups. Coronary Heart disease is a health condition

happening when the blood supplying arteries to the heart muscles are narrowed and hardened due

to cholesterol buildup and plaques on the heart’s inner walls. This disease includes

atherosclerosis, coronary syndrome, and other types of chronic ischemic disease that are

responsible for multiple deaths (AIHW, 2019). The growth of this buildup leads to less blood

flowing through the arteries within the heart muscles, which consequentially prevents oxygen

from getting into the heart. This might be contributed by myocardial infarction, angina pectoris,

or sudden deaths (Banchhor et al., 2019). WHO defines coronary heart diseases as becoming the

frequent singular cause of elderly death for the last two decades and is continually becoming a

more significant threat to the aged health and general wellbeing among these populations. The

paper will be examining the burden, risk factors that contribute to the development of coronary

heart disease. It will also explore the psychological implications of the disease and provide

possible interventions to prevent its prevalence among the aged adults.

The burden of Coronary Heart Disease

This is the measure of how the aged citizens in Australia have led their healthy lifestyle

and the corresponding impacts on their medical and social life. Coronary heart disease has been

responsible for more diseases and injuries in the country over the past few decades, and stroke is

the primary contributor to over four-fifths of the condition. It has also been reported that more

than 53 per cent of males burden the country with coronary heart disease compared to 47 per
