EVIDENCE-BASED TEST-TAKING STRATEGIES
The NCLEX Clinical Judgment Model (NCSBN)
The 2026 NCLEX uses the NCSBN Clinical Judgment Measurement Model (NCJMM) with 6 cognitive skills:
Recognize Cues → Analyze Cues → Prioritize Hypotheses → Generate Solutions → Take Action → Evaluate
Outcomes. Every NGN item tests one or more of these skills.
Priority-Setting Frameworks
▶ ABC Framework: Airway → Breathing → Circulation. Always assess and intervene on life-threatening
airway/breathing issues first.
▶ Maslow's Hierarchy: Physiological needs (oxygen, fluid, nutrition) before safety, then psychological needs.
▶ SATA Strategy: Evaluate each option independently as true/false. Do not select based on the number of
answers expected.
▶ Delegation (NCSBN): RNs may delegate tasks but not the nursing process. UAPs can perform non-
assessment, non-teaching, non-evaluation tasks.
▶ Infection Control Priority: Airborne > Droplet > Contact. Always apply the most restrictive precautions when
in doubt.
