ACCURATE ANSWERS
. What happens if the governor fails? correct answer The prop becomes fixed in
its current position?
A windmilling propeller reduces single-engine climb performance by correct
answer 200 fpm
Aerodynamic twisting Force correct answer Tends to bring the prop to a higher
angle of attack, due to the position of the center of pressure on the prop
centrifugal force correct answer tries to rip the prop out of the hub
common carriage correct answer Carrying people for hire without knowing them.
If you get customers by holding out (advertising) than you are engaging in
common carriage
Engine oil pressure by the propeller governor is boosted to correct answer 300 PSI
Explain the controllable Pitch Function? correct answer The prop control will
move the prop to either high pitch/low rpm or low pitch/high rpm, changing the
"bite" size of the prop. ( sort of like the gears in a car)
Feathering time correct answer 10-17 seconds
Gear Warning Horn Activates when correct answer Squat Switch closed (airborne)
, Down Lock switch open (gear Up)
Throttle - 14 InHg or less
Flaps- 16 or more
How do we know if the gear is down? correct answer 3 green/ side mirror
How does the Constant Speed Function work on the governor? correct answer
The prop handle controls the speeder spring tension. As the speeder spring
tension changes, the fly weights will either move in or out, moving the pilot valve
with them. As the pilot valve moves, it lets oil in or out of the prop hub, changing
the pitch of the propeller. As prop pitch changes, it will increase or decrease RPM,
moving the flyweights back to their original position
How does the emergency gear extension work? correct answer Re routes the high
pressure oil into the low pressure lines, dropping the pressure in the bottom part
of the gear retraction cylinders, and rerouting it into the top, gravity takes over
and gear drops down
How is the Landing Gear Extended? correct answer Shuttle valve moves right, fills
the low pressure lines with oil, and empties the high pressure lines. Due to gravity
and oil pressure on top of the gear cyllinder the gear drops down and is locked in
place by gear locks
How is the landing Gear Retracted? correct answer The Shuttle valve moves left,
letting oil go through the high pressure lines into the bottom of the gear cylinders.
That will force the gear to go up, the pump will be running until the pressure
switch hits 1800 PSI, at that point the pump will stop and the pressure will keep
the gear up
