A. Discuss the need for change for the company in the scenario using either the systems
contingency model or the organizational life cycle model.
- The need for change in relevant, using the systems contingency model to implement
the change will address gaps that the company has. As described, the systems
contingency model is a method that there is no not just one best strategy, structure, or
culture that generates organizational success. Using this approach, the company will
invest in finding new and different ideas to address their needs. They need multiple
dimensions of the organization working together towards the company goals. As an
example, the organizational structure of the company is a pyramid approach, where
employees are not encouraged to be creative or generate ideas, keeping an open mind,
the company will find that the opinions and ideas of their employees are worth the
time and resources to generate growth and profit.
B. Describe the differences between a learning organization and a traditional organization.
- A learning organization is based on that idea that change and learning go together. Its
purpose is to empower organization and their employees to accept the required
change as a positive experience. In a traditional organization, once something is
identified, an idea for a solution makes its way up to top management and then down
the change of command once a decision has been made. This can take time and can
delay a process of change when required. Overall, a learning environment is quick
when it comes to a change, while a traditional organization can take time to
implement a change.

- After evaluation, I believe the company is in stage 3 of the Woolner;s 5-stage model.
The organization has passed stage 1 and stage 2 by the successful development of the
company.
a. Explain why the company is currently in the identified stage of Woolner’s 5-stage
model.
- The company has been fully developed and operating at efficient rates. As they
approach stage 3, they have seen incredible growth within the organization. They
have not been able to invest any resources for their employees. This indicates an issue
in stage 3 and now they will readjust and make learning a valued aspect of the
organization moving forward.
2. Explain how the company from the scenario would use Senge’s 5 disciplines to
become a learning organization.
- As discussed in the text, these 5 disciplines are a foundation of a learning
organization transformation change approach. At first, using the systems thinking
theory would allow the company to understand the whole situation. This would help
find and solve problems with accuracy. Using personal mastery is key due to the
investment of employees. Organizations will learn through individuals and the
company will learn through their employees. Patience and personal vision will be
developed. The next step is mental model concept which will be working inward. The
company will focus on working through bureaucratic mindsets and will look forward
to opening thinking and sharing. Using a shared vison as the next step, will start with
leadership. They will share a vision for the future that will inspire and motivate the
rest of the organization. Lastly, team learning, by aligning their team to create results.
