A. Example of Ethical Leadership
The leader that I have chosen: Mr. Nelson Mandela
A1. Demonstrated Traits
The first and obvious trait demonstrated by Mr. Mandela is his integrity. Throughout his entire
life, Mandela consistently aligned his actions with his moral beliefs; even when by doing that he
ended up incarcerated for a long period of time. He was not afraid to sacrifice his freedom to
avoid betraying his moral values.
Mr. Mandela was later released from prison and went on to be elected President of South Africa.
He then demonstrated a second ethical trait, which is his fairness. He emphasized the need to
reconcile the nation instead of seeking revenge. He promoted equal rights for all and treated
every group with respect. He showed a strong commitment to social justice.
A2. How Ethical Conduct was Demonstrated by Mr. Mandela
Mr. Mandela showed his ethical conduct when he prioritized moral values over political
advantage. He promoted forgiveness to help the nation achieve long-term peace and stability
instead of pursuing revenge against those who incarcerated him and who supported apartheid.
Mandela’s main concern was to benefit the whole society and not just a specific group. Mr.
Mandela was also known foe his transparency in governmental affairs. He championed
democracy and voluntarily stepped down after one presidential term.
