1. Composing the Design

Combinational circuits will be used by the smart home electronic security system to control
keycard or code access to various rooms. Each of the crucial parts—logic gates, multiplexers,
decoders, and encoders—performs a distinct function.

• Logic Gates: In order to validate access permissions depending on input circumstances,
AND, OR, and NOT gates will be essential. An AND gate, for example, makes sure that
access is only allowed when the user code or keycard and authentication are both
accurate. Multiple legitimate access points, including visitor keycards and family member
codes, can be handled by OR gates. Inputs marked as unauthorized will be rejected by
NOT gates.
• Multiplexer: By streamlining the input signals, a multiplexer enables numerous users to
select a single code or keycard. A 4-to-1 multiplexer, for instance, can process inputs
from four keycards and send the selected signal to the decoder for verification.
• Decoder: The multiplexer's binary data will be converted into signals that allow or
prohibit access by a decoder; a 3-to-8 decoder, for instance, may process inputs from up
to 8 rooms and, depending on the input code, will activate the appropriate lock
mechanism.
• Encoder: Human-readable input, such as keycard or numeric signals, is transformed into
binary data by an encoder and then processed by multiplexers and decoders, among
other combinational components.
