Assignment 3 Semester 2 2026

QUESTION 1
1.1 Workplace hazards in the sanding section
The main hazard is airborne wood dust created during sanding, which is a chemical
health hazard because employees can breathe fine particles into the respiratory
system. The heavy dust in the air also creates an eye and skin irritation hazard,
while accumulated dust caused by poor housekeeping can increase exposure and
may create a combustible dust risk around possible ignition sources. Inconsistent
use of dust masks is an unsafe work practice that increases the chance of inhalation,
while the absence of a recent occupational hygiene survey means that management
does not know the actual exposure level. These conditions fall within hazard
recognition because occupational hygiene requires the identification of chemical,
physical and other workplace hazards before they can be evaluated and controlled
