Sexual grooming of a child
Ms Speedy may be charged with sexual grooming of a child because Mr Muscles is
seventeen years old and therefore falls within the protection given to children under
eighteen.1 The offence includes conduct done with the purpose of encouraging a
child to take part in a sexual act or reducing the child’s resistance or unwillingness to
do so.1 Ms Speedy deliberately planned to take him to a quiet place and make him
drink alcohol so that his inhibitions would become lower and he would agree to
sexual intercourse with her.1 Her words about the beer relaxing him and allowing her
to show her love make the sexual purpose of her conduct clear. The sexual act does
not first have to take place before grooming can be punishable, because the
grooming conduct itself is enough when the required intention is present
