WGU C225 KAT2 Task 3: Summative Assessment
, Introduction
The instructional environment of the provided lesson is an 8th grade class with thirty culturally diverse
pupils. There are 3 pupils with an Individualized Education Program and 2 English Language Learner pupils,
one that speaks Chinese and one who speaks Spanish. Of the entire school year, the lesson happens during the
3rd month. The lesson is an English lesson that is part of a much larger unit on Literacy Response and Analysis.
Pupils have already completed lessons on plot elements, character motivations, relevance to setting, and have
analyzed reoccurring themes in literature. In this particular paper I'll be evaluating the effectiveness of the
summative assessment and make suggestions to enhance pupil learning.
Analysis of Summative-Assessment Data
The summative assessment data from the English lesson has been split into 3 parts. There's the objective,
performance, and cumulative score. The average for all 3 scores are relatively the same, in the seventy-four to
seventy-five % range.
On the objective part of the assessment just sixteen % of the pupils scored a ninety % or higher while
twenty-seven % of the pupils scored a sixty % or below. The rest of the pupils scored between seventy and
eighty %. On the performance part of the assessment the same sixteen % scored a ninety % or higher while
fifty-three % scored between seventy and eighty %. Furthermore, the performance part showed twenty-four %
of the pupils scored between fifty and sixty % and approximately seven % scored below a forty-three %.
These outcomes are indicating that the pupils did better on the objective part of the assessment rather
than the performance part of the assessment. It's showing that just five pupils out of thirty attained mastery or
near mastery in the subject being taught. The data indicates that the instructor should look at or reteach the
information in the lesson so the class can increase their level of comprehension before moving forward in this
subject.
Evaluation of Student Measurement Instrument
The English Summative Assessment appropriately measures the knowledge gained in the objectives
stated in this lesson. In the objective part of the assessment the pupils are showing their expertise in seven forms
of figurative language, that is an objective of the lesson. In the performance area of the assessment the pupils
