God as one, who fights in a war or fasts everyday’
Ridda Wars:
A series of conflicts that Abu Bakr and Muslims waged against Arab tribes after the prophet Muhammad’s death.
After the prophet’s death some Arab tribes didn’t want to pay Zakah so this showed that they were disloyal to Islam and the Muslim
government. So, Abu Bakr went to war with the tribes, bringing them back control and making them pay zakah.

Influence:
 You must do it as it is one of the 5 pillars and 10 obligatory acts – Seen through the Ridda Wars

, Salah
- 2nd Pillar of Islam
- One of the most important actions in Islam and the first action that Muslims believe they will be questioned on during the Day of
judgement.
- It is mentioned 67 times in the Qur’an and is described as the act that separated those who give in to evil and those who resist it
- Some scholars say that the person who never prays is no longer a Muslim – others say is in grave sin
- Muslims must be In the right state of mind and intention to pray (Niyyah) – A Muslim must pray for the sake of god alone, not for
showing of or for looking good or any wordly gain

The prophet said: ‘The first matter that the slave (of Allah) will be brought to account for on the Day of judgement is the prayer! If it is
sound then the rest of his deeds will be sound. If it is bad, then the rest of his deeds will be bad’

‘They were succeeded by generations who neglected prayer and followed their lusts and so will soon face the evil consequences (hell)’

Wudu:
- Important set of actions a Muslim performs before prayer so all their focus can be on God and they are spiritually clean.
- Face, hands and feet under running water – if no water is available than sand or dust can be used.
- Without wudu, prayer is invalid and is a major sin for them to try and pray. - Wudu gets rid of sins
- ‘He who performs wudu perfectly, his sins will depart from his body, even from under his nails’
Process:
- Face the direction of the Kaaba (Qibla) – all Muslims focus on one place associated with god – Links to Tawhid
- Can pray on anything that is clean.
- Each prayer cycle includes saying ‘Allahu Akbar’  God is great
Salah
Give 2 Contrasting ways Muslims may perform Salah (4):

congregation is 25 times more superior than salah performed alone.’
- Sunni Muslims will pray on any clean place regardless of the material. ‘The prophet Muhammad said ‘the earth was created pure so pray on it’.
Shi’a Muslims will pray on any natural material eg clay and stone. Some may put a stone down to prostrate upon. They will avoid any artificial
material especially when prostrating.
- Shi’a Muslims will combine the evening prayers and pray at three different times. Sunni Muslims will pray at 5 distinct times.
- Sunni pray with their hands folded. Shia pray with their hands by their side.

Influence of Salah (5):

 Increases your Iman (faith) and closeness to God. As Muslims pray to him 5 times a day and recite the words and perform prayer for the sake of
him, which shows their gratitude to him. Surah-al-Fatiha, asks Allah for help, which can make them feel closer
 Increases your Tawa (God-consciousness) – your mindful of God at all times. You live your life according to god because you know God sees and
hears everything and will judge everyone on everything they have ever done. ‘O believers! Be mindful of Allah and be with the truthful’  It also
makes you a better and moral person.
