2. Answer all the questions.
3. Read through the entire paper before you start.
4. Number your answers as indicated.
5. Write neatly and legibly.
6. Rule off after each question.
7. Start each question on a new page.
8. Only use a blue ballpoint pen to write. Draw sketches in pencil with the labels in pen.
9. Draw a clear line through work that should not be marked.
10. Only an approved calculator may be used.
11. All calculations must be shown to receive marks.
12. Round all answers to two decimal places, unless otherwise stated.
13. Give answers with positive exponents, if necessary.
14. Clearly show all calculations, diagrams, graphs, etc.

Two schools, Brightmore High School and West Gate Academy, are competing to see which
school performed better in Mathematics in the June Examination.
The marks of the learners at Brightmore High School are recorded in the table below. The
box-and-whisker diagram illustrates the results of West Gate Academy. Both schools have
25 learners.
(Marks are given in %).
1.1 Draw the box-and-whisker diagram that represents Brightmore High School’s
marks in Mathematics.
Clearly indicate ALL relevant values. (5)
1.2 Comment on the skewness of the data of Brightmore High School. (2)
1.3 Calculate the mean mark of Brightmore High School. (2)
1.4 Determine which school performed better in the June examinations.
Give reasons for your answer by referring to the median and interquartile
ranges of both schools. Show ALL calculations. (3)
