E-books will replace printed books. How far do you agree?

Imagine a situation where you are in a world with no printed books. All you have is the modern,
sophisticated E-book. You can do amazing things with this great invention of science but can
you have the great satisfaction you get by touching printed books? Can you take your E-book to
your bedside and casually read a book you like? No, you can’t. You will most probably be
worried about this expensive gadget getting broken and hence will try to stay extremely
cautious. You can’t even sleep whenever you like with this E-book in your hand, which is quite a
common practice with printed books. The printed books are a form of art and they can be used
as a decorative medium. Having a library of books give me a feeling as if I am the richest
person on Earth. I can’t imagine a life without printed books, I wonder whether any of you can.
The E-books have a number of features which make them enticing. You can literally have an
encyclopaedia of 1000 pages in your E-book and you can carry it anywhere. You also need not
worry about carrying lots of books because of their possible weight. Think about taking only an
E-book to school instead of six to seven heavy books! Also, E-books are always available on
the store, as they are digitally stored. You don’t need to worry about reaching a bookstore and
finding out that the new bestseller is already running out of stock. Besides, you can purchase
E-books while sitting at your room sipping a cup of coffee.
Apart from this seemingly personal benefits, E-books are also an environment saviour. E-books
do not require you to cut down forests like their counterparts, hence saving the environment
from the harmful effects of carbon dioxide, which includes global warming. But in spite of all
these hiccups, I can’t readily agree that E-books will replace printed books. Turning the pages of
the printed books gives me great pleasure while scrolling through the E-book annoys me. It’s
also quite difficult to keep track of lines as the words are often quite small.
No matter whatever happens, printed books will not be replaced. It may not be in the limelight,
but will always have a significance for book readers.

"SEA- FRIEND OR ENEMY?"
The following response has been written by Ridwan Abrar
This million dollar question has roamed about the minds of many intellectuals for centuries and
have knocked down many pillars of explanation about the usefulness and hostility of these great
waterbodies-seas.
Let’s start with the glittering side of the coin first. Generally speaking, one would normally find
the benefits of seas far outweighing its dark sides if he carries out a research on the opinions of
, the general people. The reasons behind the screen are obvious! Just imagine how would your
favourite dish- a dish you have spent hours on preparing for your spouse- taste without a pinch
of salt- not so mouth watering I guess! Seawater is the natural source of this much required
‘white crystals’ we adore for putting up a fabulous dish. Thousands of jobs, no matter how big or
small they are, in the shipyards provide the means of living for needy millions all over the world.
What would these helpless people do for an honest way of living if there were no seas and
ships- quite inevitably, they would run after your wallet with a dagger! One might assume having
no deep sea fishermen would hardly affect their everyday life. Only they don’t realise, if that was
the case, they would be deprived of all the tasty, exotic deep sea fishes that adore their
refrigerator- surely no one would be as crazy to expect “Fish without water!” To an inquisitive
mind, no place on Earth is as mysterious and interesting at the seabed. Seas are an asset to all
those extravagant, luxurious ladies who feel they are naked until a ‘pearl necklace’ runs in
circles around their neck- this is also good news for the pearl divers! Seas play a decisive role in
a country’s economy as most of the exports and imports are carried out via waterways. Let’s not
forget how cheap a form of transportation the sea has evolved into due to the progress of the
technology. Ships carry thousands of people safely and in most cases more quickly across
countries. I bet all those Western people who eagerly wait for the summer sun to shine and
spread its warmth across the land would almost obviously consider sea beaches as a
summer-time “worship place”- what a place to be in to just lay down, relax and enjoy the beauty
of nature. The same goes for those adventure-seekers who ride over the gigantic waves on surf
boarders or simply for those casual ones who enjoy building sandcastles and have a game of
beach volleyball. Taking into consideration the usefulness of seas as a transport medium, it is
worthy to quote: “Seas have joined the continents; not divided them.”
However, let’s not be blindly obsessed like a “sea-worshipper.” The dusty side of the coin is just
as terrifying. Everytime you take a swim in the seawater, you run the risk of losing any of your
limbs or maybe even losing your life to a ravenous shark. The intensity and frequency of waves
can change in split seconds to drag you to the world of no return- unless you own a national
award in swimming. Every year, from different corners of the globe, we get news of seas turning
savage and sweeping away life and civilisation in the form of storms and tsunamis. Many bold
fishermen also lose their lives in mid-sea tempests. When the sea decides to break the
shackles, there’s no chance of resistance. It engulfs land, destroys habitats and renders
irreparable harm to the economy and more importantly the general people of the infected area.
What can be more lamentable than losing a dear one who had become the meal for some
ferocious water monsters, like sharks? These dark sides, although seeming quite insignificant
compared to the benefits, do pose serious threat if unleashed in full vigour.
