iCARE Paper Chamberlain College of Nursing NR451 RN Capstone Course iCARE Paper Currently, I work as a charge nurse in a hospital’s step-down ventilators unit. I work for a full 12-hour night shift where I must interact with other inter-professional teams to achieve the goal of quality patient care. Insurance and Care (icare) is an organization which was fundamentally created for the purpose of delivering insurance and care schemes. It is thus the focal point of excellent services for long-term care needs for patients with severe injuries hence improving the quality of life. Such professional teams include patient care technicians, LPNs and monitor technicians. One key team function which has proven to be key here is high-frequency interventions and monitoring since most patients regularly become unstable with a heartbeat. This is caused by a variety of care settings, such as ICU, coronary care unit, cardiothoracic surgery unit, and trauma unit. In fact, there are cases when patients are served the patient in ventilators and hence high-frequency monitoring and intervention are critical. In such units, nurses should have the capability of providing education and thus should be well equipped with rhythm interpretation. Nurses must understand the relationship between various co-morbidities to care for the patient efficiently. Compassion Nursing is a career of compassion. Consequently, there are several nursing actions which contribute to compassion even in an environment where interprofessional teams support each other to deliver quality patient care. Such acts of compassion provide the patients with the confidence and support they fervently need to be ready for lengthy recovery or even fight overwhelming diseases. Compassionate nurse becomes empathetic to their patients’ suffering and pain. Communication is always an important tool in every sphere of human life. A patient in critical conditions may not utter words but can still communicate when he or she sees what the nurse it telling them. A good nursing action that would be important in ventilators unit is talking to patients while being an active listener whenever they can discuss their complaints and health issues. This helps the nurse to pick the unspoken concerns of the patients. More importantly, talking with patients may provide them with emotional support especially when they do not have close friends or families to lean on. This act of compassion also benefits the nurses who support each other in the interprofessional teams. It makes the teams enjoy their job with a stronger feeling of connection to their career. The emotional support patients get from such acts of compassion lessens their depression while, on the other hand, increasing their strength to survive through their pain and suffering. Advocacy Nurses, in their interprofessional teams, can assist patients in making informed decisions with regard to patients’ health. Such help may come in the form of navigating difficult medical system, making ethical decisions and even in understanding medical conditions. One critical nursing action which can contribute to advocacy is helping patients to make informed decisions. Nurses can assist their patients in enhancing their right of making decisions on their own health. This should be taken seriously when patients are competent and alert to points of refusing to take medication or treatment. Nurses must offer support and provide information to enable the patients to make informed decisions. This improves patient equality and reduces their suffering. In the culture of the unit, the nurse will all remain fray by advocating for the needs of the patients. This act of advocacy improves patients’ experience ensuring that positive outcomes are achieved. Advocacy enhances more efficient healing process which satisfies both the nurse and the patients. Resilience In the healthcare system, resilience is one of the key tools since it assists nurses in coping with the stressful care environment: it minimizes the distress which causes burnout or even worse, exhaustion. Resilience is a huge aid for both nurses and patients. There are many nursing actions which contribute to resilience. One such action is offering optimal healing. This means that interprofessional teams provide holistic care for the patients and their peers in ways such as support during stress. Nurse support is greatly desired for both the patient and peers during all stages of their ailments. Nurses should relieve stress by responding accurately to reduce emotional, physical and mental stress which affects even the nurses. Accurate responses include actively solving problems and even turning to spiritual practices to reduce stress. The outcome of such a nursing action is minimized stress on both patients and nurses. Evidence-Based Practice Nursing practice is a practice based on the use of evidence to realize quality care. Solid research which abides by standards of safety and quality is applied to enhance the satisfaction of patients’ needs. One nursing action which could contribute to EBP is infection control to prevent illnesses. Under this action, activities such as wearing protective clothing, keeping the environment clean and practicing precautions are done to control infections which may be inflicted on the patients. Proper EBP nursing actions improve research in nursing. Such an action above improves the health of patients improving their outcomes. The costs of care are also reduced. For nurses, their culture is enriched with greater nursing skills which are gained while enhancing infection control. Summary This paper has broadly discussed Insurance and Care (iCARE) with respect to the role it plays and its components. iCARE is an essential part of the healthcare system since it focuses on assisting in care to relieve patients of the suffering and pain they get from their conditions. Its components play different roles as explained above. They all serve to improve the quality of patient care while ensuring that nurses are working with no stress. iCARE components dictate the best practices of nurses to ensure quality care. The components ensure that both the patient and the patient are left happy after successful treatments. The only way to influence the process is to enhance communication. This would allow patients to communicate with nurses with no hesitation and vice versa. Indeed, it is only through communication that nurses can know the feelings of the patient. This is key in nursing. All nurses should encourage interprofessional teams in their units since learning never ends.
