Introduction
Psychology in Africa has developed within a complex historical and political context. As
highlighted in the study material for PYC1511 Introduction to Psychology (University
of South Africa), psychology was introduced to Africa through colonial institutions and
was heavily influenced by Western theories and worldviews. These imported
frameworks often ignored indigenous African knowledge systems and were sometimes
