Welcome to the Clinical Practice Experience (CPE) for this course. The CPE for the Master of
Science in Nursing program core courses consist of a variety of semi-structured activities. By
completing all the activities and evidence listed within this document, and earning a grade of
“Competent,” you will earn 40 indirect CPE hours for this course.
CPE Objective:
You will take on the role of a graduate degree-prepared nurse who has advanced knowledge of
the pathophysiology and pharmacology associated with human disease needed to explain
complex health information to colleagues and to translate that complex information into disease-
specific education for consumers that is simple and easy to understand.
In this CPE, you will experience the role of a graduate degree–prepared nurse in three phases:
●Phase 1: You will educate a healthcare provider or colleague about the pathophysiology
associated with one of the following five diseases: Alzheimer disease, cancer, chronic lower
respiratory infections, nephritis, or suicide.

●Phase 2: You will educate patients or healthcare consumers (adult, geriatric, pediatric) about
the pathophysiology and pharmacology associated with one of the following five diseases:
heart disease, accidents, diabetes, influenza and pneumonia, or stroke. You should
emphasize the importance of lifestyle changes in combination with medication treatment.
●Phase 3: You will educate an advanced professional nurse or colleague about the
pathophysiology and pharmacology treatments relevant to one of the Shadow Health patients
of your choosing and develop patient treatment plans for one of the remaining Shadow
