Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is regarded as the focus on the relationship
between an organization and its external stakeholders. Businesses are finding that social
responsibility is essential to a business strategy in our interconnected world (Trevino & Nelson,
2017). I will discuss the CSR policies of PepsiCo, selected based on their strong commitment to
global best practices for CSR.
PepsiCo’s CSR website outlines five key principles all employees are expected to follow
as part of their code of ethical excellence, referred to as the PepsiCo Way. The five principles to
follow from the company website are: Respect in the workplace, Trust in the marketplace,
Fairness in our business relationships, Honesty in business conduct, and Purpose in our world
(PepsiCo). This was first placed into effect on October 1, 2012, and the website states is
“amended periodically”, most recently, in August 2023.
PepsiCo’s CSR outlines its expectations for stakeholders and for secondary stakeholders
around the world. For example, regarding environment, health and safety (EHS) standards,
Pepsico states they are “committed to maintaining a global environment, health and safety (EHS)
strategy to help ensure we achieve a consistently high standard across our global operations,
reducing our EHS risk profile.” (PepsiCo).
