Introduction – Learning objectives
Operations management is essential for the success of all organizations, large and small. It
makes it possible for them to supply products and services that we need and want.
The subject Operations Management is about the way in which organizations design, supply
and improve services and products, taking into account financial, logistical, social and
environmental preconditions and/or constraints.
Definitie van operations managment: Verstrekking van producten en diensten aan je
afnemers.
Klanten zien vaak alleen het eindproduct, maar hebben geen idee wat er vooraf gaat. Dat
heet operations management

- Leveren
- Mogelijkheden binnen de organisatie
- Processen en dingen aangestuurd

componenten die je
later in elkaar schroeft,
onderdelen van een
geheel (bij mcdonalds
een saus)

products and services.
Some general examples
are shown here, together
with some of the
operations featured as
‘Operations in practice’
examples in this chapter.

grondstoffen
Transformed resources
Tentamenvraag
Maak een indeling
waardoor het
transformatieproces
gemaakt kan worden
Antwoord
Grondstoffen –
Materialen - Klanten
• Transforming resources act upon the transformed resources.
• 2 types of transforming resources.
• Building blocks of all operations:
Facilities
• Building
• Equipment
• Plant = fabriek
, • Process technology
Staff
People who
• Operate
• Maintain
• Plain and
• Manage the operation

Samenleving dus people – planet – profit
dus duurzaamheid
1. Operations performance at a societal level
Operations should take in account their impact on a broad mix of stakeholders
Organizations should measure themselves on both:
• The traditional economic profit and
• The impact of their operations on society and their ecological impact on the
environment
Gaat over stakeholders en belanghebbenden
2. Operations performance at a strategic level
What is the impact of Operations on the organization’s strategic ‘economic’ position?
• Cost = kosten
• Revenue = opbrengsten
• Required level of investment = benodigde investeringen
• Risk of operational failure = risico’s
• Building the capabilities for future innovation
