Assignment 2 Semester 2 2026
Unique number:
Due date: September 2026
QUESTION 1: Conceptualising Diversity in Organisations [6 marks]
Diversity
Diversity refers to the differences and similarities that make people unique and
influence how they see situations, relate to others and perform their work. In
Masakhane Connect, diversity can be seen in the different racial, cultural, linguistic,
gender, age and educational backgrounds of employees. These differences are
important because they shape employees’ experiences in the organisation and affect
how they respond to the company’s digital transformation. Diversity therefore
involves more than visible differences because it also includes experience,
language, education and other characteristics that influence workplace relationships
and performance (IOP2607 Learning Unit 4, 2026).

Workforce diversity
Workforce diversity refers to the mixture of different people who work in the same
organisation and the relationships that develop between them. Masakhane Connect
has a workforce made up of people from many backgrounds, including older and
younger employees, people from rural branches, employees with different
languages, women and men, and a worker with a visual impairment. This means that
the organisation has a diverse workforce that can bring different knowledge,
experiences and perspectives into the business. However, the case also shows that
having a diverse workforce does not automatically create inclusion because some
employees are still excluded from training, promotion and equal access to
technology (IOP2607 Learning Unit 4, 2026).
Diversity management
Diversity management is a planned organisational approach that develops the
workforce, changes organisational culture and creates fair opportunities for different
employees to contribute. Masakhane Connect has started this process by promoting
ubuntu, inclusion and innovation and by establishing a diversity task team after the
employee climate survey showed declining trust, low morale and perceptions of
unfair treatment. The task team should therefore move beyond simply recognising
differences and make practical changes to policies, training, promotion practices,
