Ethical Considerations and Principles

A. The ethical theory model I have chosen is Utilitarianism, as it facilitates
responsible and moral decisions based on the principle of aggregation.

1. Utilitarianism theory operates on the clear moral principles which state an
action that produces the greatest overall good for the greatest number of
stakeholders. This approach focuses on equality of the many, not just the few. A
company that adopts this model as an ethical approach to policy making
experiences greater employee satisfaction, and the company gains a reputation
for promoting fairness.

2. An example of an ethical issue from the scenario is that the company TechFite
hired the residents as full-time employees with full-time benefits. However, due
to financial limitations, Techfite arbitrarily reclassified many of its full-time
employees as part-time employees, resulting in the loss of benefits typically
associated with full-time employment.

A. In the above example, I have identified the arbitrary reclassification of full-time
employees to part-time employees as an ethical issue. The ethical issue here is
the breach of trust and the appearance of dishonesty. The company failed to
fulfil its commitment to its employees; instead, many employees were arbitrarily
reclassified from full-time to part-time status, resulting in a loss of benefits and
financial compensation.

b. The two stakeholders that are impacted are the employees of TechFite and the
Dellberg Youth Leadership group. Not only did the employees lose their full-time
status and full-time pay, but they also lost the benefits that came with the full-

, time status. The Youth Leadership group lost their sponsorship, which means
less revenue to invest in the community.

c. Utilitarianism theory from Part A1 can be applied to the ethical issue in Part
A2 to help TechFite gain its ethical alignment by rehabilitating its reputation and
public image by revisiting the initial promises made to Dellberg's community
members. TechFite can achieve its goal by rebuilding its reputation and
accepting responsibility for arbitrarily changing the employment status of
community members. Also, TechFite can accomplish this by reinstating
community members to full-time status with their complete benefit packages.

3.a. The second example of an ethical issue is the consideration of pay inequality.
The discovery of top executives receiving significant bonuses while many of the
employees were designated as part-time status demonstrated unfairness.

The residents of Dellberg were also disgruntled, as the Youth Leadership
initiative did not receive the financial support from TechFite. One of the
consequences is possible program cuts that students depend on, such as
scholarships. The Youth Leadership may have committed to other social
programs, and may now have to reconsider their commitments.

C. Utilitarianism can help TechFite achieve its ethical realignment by evaluating
and calculating the consequences of its actions. Utilitarianism focuses on
maximizing overall happiness and minimizing harm. The stakeholders and
shareholders have a vested financial interest in TechFife’s USA. The company
can use the outcome of the HR investigation as part of damage control and
reduce the executive's bonus package. TechFite can achieve its goal by
addressing the wage gap. TechFite can demonstrate good faith by paying its
employees fair and competitive wages. TechFite should immediately contribute
to the Youth Leadership program. If the company does not have the initial
amount, it can commit to a lesser amount of money. This commitment will
