1. What are the three elements of the fire triangle?—ANSWER-Oxygen, heat, and fuel

Four things must be present at the same time in order to produce fire:

Enough oxygen to sustain combustion,Enough heat to raise the material to its ignition

temperature,Some sort of fuel or combustible material

2. Describe the three methods of heat transfer?—ANSWER-Conduction

Convection

Radiation

Conduction—ANSWER-Transfer of heat through and between solids.

, Physical flow or transfer of heat energy from one body to another through direct contact or

an intervening medium from the point where the heat is produced to another location or

from a region of high temperature to a region of low temperature.

Convection—ANSWER-Transfer of heat by the circulation or movement of a fluid / air (liquid

or gas).

From one room to another transfer of heat = convection

Radiation—ANSWER-Radiating from the burning thing in a direct line. Direct. So, if there is

something infront of you there will be a barrier from the item burning.

House to house movement = Radiation

Flashover happens from = Radiation

Transmission of energy as an electromagnetic wave, such as light waves, radio waves, or x-

rays, without an intervening medium.

3. Describe how topography influences fire behavior.—ANSWER-Fire usually spreads faster

uphill than downhill because fuels are more efficiently preheated by uphill-spreading of heat

and flames. The steeper the slope, the faster the fire can burn. Aspect is the direction a

slope is facing. The aspect of the slope determines the amount of heating it gets from the

sun.
