CASE STUDY 2 Banc-Zero offers a wide range of financial services, and its approach to providing credit is conservative. The organization does not give credit unless they are sure that the returns are worth the risk, thus confirming its conservative approach, which helps it to reduce the bad debts. Banc-Zero understands that the customers with higher chances of defaulting can plunge it into problems. The financial institution, therefore, primarily targets customers with financial services needs, but it still faces competition from different quarters. Some of the services that it deals with include advisory and merges and acquisitions. The level of competition that Banc-Zero faces is both local and internationally. The local competition includes various financial institutions such as investment banks that are both regional and foreign-based while also non-bank financial institutions. Banc-Zero had two types of derivative contracts. The contacts included over-the-counter and standardized contracts. Banc-Zero negotiated over-the-counter agreements with certain counterparties. For standardized agreements, the institution executed and traded on an exchange. The institution structured as contracts the instruments whose values they derived from underlying assets which it uses in its trading and other management operations. Banc-Zero acts as a dealer in derivative instruments, which helps meet customer risk management. It structures transactions that enable their customers to hedge a member of its board heads their exposure to security prices and commodities, and its risk management group. The board member holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and an MBA from Harvard. The group that Susan McLaughlin heads oversees the overall risk profile at the institution, and it operates alongside other essential units. The units that the Risk Management Group works with are the Audit, Legal, and Financial, among other units which help it to monitor risks from different perspectives. The primary aim of the group is to ensure that the organization operates within the set standards and units.
