,THE INVIGILATOR APP
o Ensure that you are connected to the internet in order to log in to The Invigilator app and scan the QR code
provided below.
o If you struggle to scan the QR code, please enter the Exam Access Code below the QR code to start the
invigilation.
o Unless otherwise specified by your institution, note that you can only scan this QR code once. If your
assessment has multiple online sections, tests or attempts, you should NOT finish the invigilation until your
entire assessment has been completed.
o Only scan the QR code when the assessment formally commences.
o The QR code is only scannable for a limited time and it should therefore be scanned as soon as possible to
start the invigilation.
o Once the QR code is scanned, ensure that your media volume is turned up and place your smartphone next to
you. The Invigilator app will notify you with a notification beep when you are required to action a request, which
you should then perform.
o We recommend that you keep your smartphone on charge for the duration of the assessment.
o If you only have one device, you may access your assessment in the application by clicking on the Access
Exam button in the top right-hand corner of your app.
o Keep The Invigilator app open on your cellphone for the full duration of the assessment. You are not
allowed to minimise or leave the app.
o Ensure that you are connected to the internet in order to commence the invigilation and at the end of the
assessment. No internet connection is required during the assessment.
o You have to adhere to the assessment time limit communicated to you by your institution as the time displayed
in The Invigilator app could differ from the time allocated to complete your assessment.
o click on the Finish Assessment button in the app if you finish your assessment early.
o If you are performing a written or scan-and-upload assessment, The Invigilator app may request you to take a
picture of every page of your answer sheet at the end of the assessment. Unless otherwise specified by your
institution, this does NOT replace the normal upload of your script to your institution’s online portal.
o After completing invigilation and following all app instructions, you must upload your invigilation app data. If
there is a delay in the upload of the app data at the end of the assessment, you should prioritise the upload of
your script to your university portal. You can temporarily minimise the app to do so. Uploading of app data is
not time sensitive – you can come back and do it after you have successfully uploaded your script to the
examination portal.
o Should you encounter any technical difficulty, please WhatsApp The Invigilator Helpdesk on 073 505 8273.

, EXAMINATION RULES
Students are expected to familiarise themselves with the online examination rules before they commence with their
examinations.

Examination sessions commence at the time indicated on the final examination timetable. You are required to adhere
strictly to the specified times.

For file upload/take-home examinations
1. Students must upload their answer scripts in a single PDF file on the official myExams platform (answer scripts
may NOT be password-protected or uploaded as "read-only" files). The university only marks one submission
received from a student. Priority is granted to scripts received via the myExams platform.

2. NO e-mailed scripts will be accepted.

3. Students are advised to preview submissions (answer scripts) to ensure legibility and also to ensure that the
correct answer script file has been uploaded.

4. Students are permitted to resubmit their answer scripts, but only within the stipulated submission duration, should
they regard the initial submission to be unsatisfactory. Resubmissions after the closing time of the examination
are not permitted.

5. Scripts submitted in an incorrect file format will not be considered for marking. Students are advised to refer to
their module’s examination instructions to ensure they use the correct file format.

6. Wrong answer scripts that are uploaded, that is, any file other than the exam answer script (e.g., uploading the
question paper instead of the answer script) will not be marked and a 0% will be awarded. No opportunity will be
granted for resubmission.

7. Unisa relies on an automated synchronisation system that elects scripts to be marked in accordance with its
prioritisation rules. Unisa awards 0% to incorrect submissions made on the official platform, even if the correct
submissions have been made on alternative platforms.

8. A mark awarded for an incomplete submission will be the student’s final mark. No opportunity for resubmission
will be granted.

9. A mark awarded for an illegible scanned submission will be the student’s final mark. No opportunity for
resubmission will be granted.

10.Only the last answer file uploaded within the stipulated submission duration period will be marked.

11.Submissions will be accepted only from registered student accounts.

12.Students who have not used the prescribed invigilation or proctoring tools will be deemed to have transgressed
Unisa’s examination rules and will have their marks withheld.

13.Students with more than one Unisa student number should ensure that the relevant student number/s is/are
registered on the Invigilator App for the modules requiring invigilation before their examination session starts.

14. Assessments invigilated by The Invigilator app require a student to activate the QR code. The QR code is
available for activation 15 minutes before the start time of the examination and 30 minutes after the official start
time of the examination. Students who fail to activate the QR code within the available 45 minutes will be deemed
not to have utilised the invigilation or proctoring tools and their final marks will be withheld.
