HIV A. Screening for HIV infection in
adolescences and adults aged
15-65 years. Nucleic Acid Test
Chlamydia and Gonorrhea B. Recommended for patients 25 years
and older who are at increased risk of
infection-her husband was unfaithful,
she has had 3 sex partners, and she
suspects she has a STI. The nucleic
acid amplification tests (NAATs) for
Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria
gonorrhoeae on endocervical sample or
urine sample.
Hypertension A.Risk factors include: stress, African
American, increased alcohol intake, diet
high in sodium. Recommended
initial screening in adults with blood
pressure measurement in clinic and if
elevated, blood pressure monitoring at

Depression screening B.in the recommended age group.
Patient states mild depression since the
divorce, but need to assess the severity
or if it is worsening and if
medication would be a good option for
her. Patient Health Questionnaire
BRCA1/2 gene mutation risk B.The USPSTF recommends that primary
care clinicians assess women with a
family history of breast cancer
with an appropriate brief familial risk
assessment tool. Women with a
positive result on the risk assessment
tool should receive genetic counseling.

Unhealthy alcohol use B.Screening for unhealthy alcohol use in
primary care settings in adults 18 years
or older.
She drinks 2 wine servings every day.
I would use the Alcohol Use Disorders
Identification Test-Consumption (AUDIT-
C)
Prediabetes and type 2 diabetes screen B. Recommended for overweight or
obese adults aged 35-70 years. The case
study didn’t state her weight, but her
diet is unhealthy so I believe a screening
would be beneficial. Hemoglobin A1c
blood test or fasting blood glucose
Unhealthy drug use B.Adults aged 18 and older. She uses
marijuana but could use other illicit
substances as well, especially with her

Syphilis infection screening A. Adolescents and adults at increased
risk for syphilis infection. The patient’s
ex husband was unfaithful and could
have spread the infection.
RPR blood test
Routine annual labs The patient hasn’t been seen in 2 years,
as part of her annual physical I would
order a CBC, CMP, lipid panel, and TSH if
it has not been checked before.
