WV Senior Care
West Virginia Senior Care is place that has consolidated all of the places around WV that
provide care for the elderly. Their mission is to help advance the quality, value and
professionalism of the extended care providers to help benefit the residents of the
communities. This is a website that provides access to in-home services, healthcare facilities,
pharmacies, medical equipment suppliers, government resources, and support groups. It is
sponsored by the WV Health Care Association. This company advocates for the best provision of
in-home and community based care (West Virginia Health Care Association, 2012).
West Virginia Adult Protective Services
West Virginia Adult Protective Services advocates for the health and well being of the
elderly population. They help protect and assist the vulnerable and elderly adults to prevent
and stop abuse, neglect, and explorations. This agency provides a reporting center,
documentation of public policy, and emerging trends and caregiver needs (Family Caregiver
Alliance, 2018).
Practicum Experience
During this last couple weeks of clinicals I have come across several patients that I felt
needed someone to advocate on their behalf. The most recent was an 80-year-old male who is
now vent dependent. He had developed contractures in all extremities and can only lay there
and stare. The courts have appointed a daughter as the surrogate and she is adamant to
continue treatment for her father. There is no hope for any meaningful recovery. The ethics
committee is involved in this case and has determined that the daughters wishes must be
