Manifestations: brittle hair and nails, skin is dry and yellow, fine hair over body, feel cols,
drop in bp and hr, brittle bones, irregular heart rhythm, potentially death

✔✔Bulimia Nervosa (BN) - ✔✔Condition where individuls binge on food or have
episodes of overeating in which they feel a loss of control. After binging, they use
vomiting or laxatives to prevent weight gain. Binge eating is the rapid consumption of
large amounts of food in a small time frame. Frequently undiagnosed because they are
usually overweight or normal weight. Mainly effects females.

Signs of BN: lots products in the trash, like food and laxatives. Menstrual irregularity,
depression mood, stomach pain, chronic sore throat, damage to the teeth, scars on
knuckles, swollen cheeks, severe dehydration, electrolyte disorders

unable to stop eating. Can cause a sense of relief or fulfillment that is followed by grief
and disgust.

take control of what they are eating. BN- CBT, family therapy. BED- CBT

CAM: chamomile tea, acupunture, mindfulness, yoga, biofeedback

of the event.

Etiology: Can occur at any age

Risk factor: military, law enforcement, EMS, firefighters, based on severity of the event,
no support after trauma, history of trauma, preexisting mental illness. Most likey to use
drugs and alcohol to cope.

✔✔Manifestations PTSD - ✔✔Emotional numbness, hyperarousal, sleep disturabnces,
restless, agitation, poor concentration, dissociation, alcohol abuse, severe anxiety,
flashbacks, acute distress when reminded of the event, trouble with affection,
nightmare, depression, guilt, suicidal thoughts.

Child manifesations: sleep problems, fear of being seperated from parents, agression,
regression, changes in mood, may act out trauma through drawings or play time

✔✔PTSD collaboration - ✔✔Pharm: holistic approach, short term benzodiazepines,
SSRI like zoloft and paxil, and prazosin for nightmares

Nonpharm: Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing is a form of therapy that
includes CBT and body centered therapy. Allows patient to reprocess trauma by
focusing internally on the traumatic event while focusing on different stimuli. Exposure
therapy, family based therapy, acupuncture.
