Direct and Indirect Communication Strategies
Communication within an organization is pertinent to the performance of any business
type. Two organizational communications are direct and indirect communication. Direct
communication is when information is given to the intended party without any barriers. However
Indirect communication uses nonverbal methods to process information. Both of these methods
are used depending on the staff members' understanding and the company’s needs.
Working together can facilitate direct communication, especially during performance
reviews, team meetings, and company-wide town halls. In performance reviews, a manager will
give immediate feedback ensuring that the staff members understand the manager’s expectations
of them while employed.
Team meetings where we collaborate will allow team members to speak to one another in
front of peers and managers to make sure everyone hears the information. This allows for
clarification and understanding.
Indirect communication is essential when direct communication causes a bit of issues.
When direct communication might cause conflict in the workplace, a manager could indirectly
, communicate in the performance expectations sector. Managers should email the team in regards
to company standards which will help team members. This also will allow the manager to
improve behavior without bringing it out directly to the intended audience and avoid possible
conflict. Indirect communication helps levels of communication where direct communication is
not conveying the message efficiently.
