Conflict between employees within an organization is common. Conflicts can be
classified as either healthy or unhealthy depending on how the organization is affected. This can
result in either positive or negative outcomes. Therefore, it is critical for the organization to
determine the root causes to be able to work towards a solution all parties are content with.
Disagreements within an organization can be caused by a variety of factors. They can
occur as a result of poor communication, personality clashes, differences in values, interest or
even poor performance (University of South Carolina Upstate, n.d.). An individual’s culture,
race and or religion can influence most of these factors resulting in conflicts among employees.
Culture and ethnicity can influence the individual’s perspective therefore when people of
, different backgrounds come together the difference in perspectives can result in a clash of
opinions.
Organizations strive to resolve conflicts when they arise as an attempt to deduce any
negative consequences the establishments may experience as a result. When employees
experience unhealthy conflict, their performance is affected. As a result, their capability to
efficiently perform their responsibilities are affected which negativity impacts the origination.
Organizations can experience an increase in misused recourses such as time, energy and or
money due to unhealthy conflicts among employees. Therefore, the employee’s teamwork is
negatively influenced resulting in a reduction in productivity (University of South Carolina
Upstate, n.d.). As a result, organization strive to resolve conflicts among employees which
can alleviate the negative consequences the organization may experience as the result.
Organizations need to have a conflict resolution strategy which is utilized to mitigate
conflicts among employees. There are five types of strategies of conflict resolution which can
