SRT/SDT
purpose of the SRT is to - Answer-verify the PTA
+/- 6 dB agreement= - Answer-good agreement
+/- 7 dB to +/- 12 dB= - Answer-fair agreement
>+/-13 dB= - Answer-poor agreement
SRT - Answer--Previously referred to as speech reception threshold, spondee recognition threshold
-Level at which listener can correctly repeat back stimulus 50% of the time or with 50% accuracy
SDT - Answer--Previously referred to as speech awareness threshold
-Level at which listener indicates awareness 50% of the time (similar to pure tone threshold)
stimuli - Answer-spondee words usually used for SRT
what are spondee words? - Answer--Two syllable, compound words
-Equal stress on each syllable
, how many words used when doing SRTs? - Answer-8-12
ASHA's 4 steps - Answer-1.Instruction
2.Familiarization
3.Initial and test phase for descending technique
4.Calculation of threshold
SRT instructions - Answer-1.Orient the patient to the nature of the task
2.Specify the response mode to the patient
3.Inform that the test material is speech and he/she should respondusing words from the test list
familiarized
4.Strongly state the importance of listening to the faint speech levels, responding at these levels
5.Provide encouragement to the patient to guess
SRT instructions must be - Answer-worded in appropriate language
Response task - Answer-1. repeat back word (typical)
2. write word down
3. point to a picture
write word down - Answer--If intelligibility is an issue (people with cleft lip and palate; dysarthria etc.)
-If audiologist has hearing loss, may need to find another option
