THE CONTRIBUTION OF SOCIAL MEDIA TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY
Domestic violence is a topic that is becoming prevalent in academic literature. The topic has gained attention among scholars because it has become one of the gravest social problems, not only in the United States of America but also in the world. One of the factors that have been attributed to the rising rates of domestic violence is the power of social media. Researches hold that social media outlets address domestic violence with a negative perception. Instead of influencing positive solutions, social media platforms address the problem of domestic violence by portraying sexism, demonizing women, and applauding violence against women—directly and indirectly. This influences many people to perceive domestic violence as a solution to familial problems rather than a social problem. Therefore, it is justified to state that social media contributes to domestic violence. This paper, therefore, provides research that argues that social media is a great contributor to domestic violence. Below are the annotations of the sources that shall be used for the research.
