Macro theory
Feminism Conflict theory
Feminism:
- A movement to gain social, political, and economic equality.
- All feminists agree we have a male dominated, patriarchal society.
- Different approaches within feminism (a fragmented theory)
Liberal feminists:
- Also known as choice feminists/march of progress
- Inequality maintained through socialisation
- Restricts women’s opportunities
- Also bad for men
- Want reform not revolution
- Things are getting better, but not there yet
- Gradual progress towards gender equality in the family
How has the position of women improved?
- Right to vote, abortion, trans rights, women in political power,
women in armed forces, working mums, closing the pay gap
Radical feminists
- Society is patriarchal
- Men control women’s bodies (rape, sa, objectification)
- They want a gender revolution
- Believe in gender segregation – e.g., females should be educated
separately too males – males are distracting, women will achieve
more without them
Marxist feminists
- Exploitation of women blamed on capitalism
- Men’s financial power keeps women in their place
- “Dual burden”
- Radical reorganisation of society… communism!
