Capitalism And Socialism Case Study: Uber. According to Fieser, the economic model of capitalism is based on self-interest, private management of industrial output, and decentralization of its programs (Feiser, 2015). Business methods are meant to represent collective, government-led, and concentrated engagement, while socialism shows the opposite (Fesier, 2015). The position of state and economic freedom is the key divide between capitalism and socialism. The market-based culture of capitalism, such as that in the United States, is made up of the people who buy and the private or commercial vendors. Beyond the limitations of specific laws and regulations that are created and regulated, the economy functions. It offers consumers choice, economic independence, and development. Uber uses a free market method of renting cars, which saves them money. They gain because there are no transaction fees, allowing for a more effective use of capital. Uber's "estimated market valuation is more than LinkedIn, Tesla, Delta or Hertz, and it is rapidly closing in on General Motors and Starbucks," according to Smith (2015). Due to the availability of on-demand transportation services, such as Uber, consumers are no longer as motivated to own vehicles. The Uber industry does, however, compete directly with the taxi business. According to Sales (2014), Uber is a platform that connects riders and drivers; it neither owns nor directly employs any vehicles or drivers. Due to its lack of regulation and self-interest, Uber is undoubtedly a perfect example of capitalism. According to Uber, "we're a tech firm that connects two parties via a smartphone app," not a transportation provider [IJS14]. Since Uber is not a transportation firm, they are not subject to the Department of Transportation's regulation and are not needed to follow the same regulations as taxi services or bus companies. They avoid many of the issues that conventional businesses have because they don't own vehicles and don't formally employ people. Since they are only the middleman, their obligation is minimal. Uber leans more toward free market principles since it takes advantage of all of the supply and demand in our society while remaining decentralized due to market competition [Fie15].
