W. E. B. Dubois () First African American to earn a Ph. D. from Harvard. He argued that giving African Americans only one educational direction and the white people several undermined the achievement of civil and political equality. Dubois stated that Washington was depriving the African American education of their education they needed to become the leaders of their race. Booker T.
