Describe the five steps in the marketing research process.
1. Locating and defining issues or problems:
The most important part of the marketing research process. In order to do any
research and collect data, we have to know what we are trying to learn from the
research. In marketing research, defining the problem we need to solve will
determine what information we need and how we can get that information.
2. Designing the research project:
Once the problem is determined, the next step is to formulate and design the
research plan. In this step, we decide what type of research that will be
conducted and from which sources.
The project should not be limited to a small set of approaches or methods, but
instead we should consider the large diversity of approaches that are available.
There are a wide variety of data collection methods to use, including the
following:
3. Collecting data:
In this step, we must discern whether we should use Primary or Secondary data
For collecting primary data, there are a wide variety of methods to use, including
the following:
i. Mail Surveys
ii. Telephone Surveys
iii. Online Surveys
iv. Personal Interview Surveys
