(Ch. 1) What is "Building Construction Estimating"? 1) "Building Construction Estimating" is the determination of probable
construction costs of any given project. Lots of research and study goes into
these estimates as they are done before the project is started, the estimator is
one of the most important people in a construction company for this reason.
(Ch. 1) Name and explain 5 types of estimates. • Detailed Estimate- determines quantities and costs of everything required to
complete project. (materials, labor, equipment, bonds, insurance)
• Assembly Estimate- Items bid together in groups rather than individually. For
example a light switch would include a gang box, pole switch, cover plate,
conduit etc.
• Square Foot Estimate- Done by taking square foot price and multiplying it by
total square foot of the building. Can be adjusted for different heights, lengths
or other components such as parking garages.
• Project Comparison Estimate - based on previous projects you have
performed that are similar in structure or requirements.
• Parametric Estimates - use equations that express the statistical relationship
between building parameters and the cost of the building. Gross square
footage, number of floors, % of building that is common space etc.
