MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND GENETICS

In this lecture we cover the regulatory DNA sequences and the protein through which they function. That includes distant elements and proximal promoter elements as well as transcription factors. We also analyse DNA binding domains, activation domains etc. We have the Nuclear receptor family and the mechanisms of activation through modulation of chromatin, recruitment of RNA polymerase and stimulation of elongation.

Description of RNA processing starting from basic knowledge about mRNAs. Continue to splicing with the spliceosome and how it's achieved. We also have alternative splicing and its control through activator or repressor proteins. That can lead to mutation of splice sites or splicing factors, and therefore to diseases.

How we control translation

Description of what happens when we have upregulation of eIF4E, leading to overexpression and increased translation of "poor" mRNAs. That can lead to cancer.
