UNISA PSYCHOLOGY NOTES

The aim of this research project is to discover fully what motivates people to give their time and energy to an organization and to helping other people, without being compensated. What are their experiences and what do they gain from this? In my study I hope to discover what the real motivation is for volunteering?

At the simple cybernetic level we place ourselves outside the system as observers of what is going on inside the system. Using a metaphor of a black box to describe a system whose operation we are trying to understand by observing what goes into and what comes out of the system. We do not see ourselves as either part of the system or concerned with why it does what it does. Our focus is on describing what it does. We ask questions such as who are the members of the system? What are the...

A first order psychologist would look at the Naidoo family from outside the system as an observer of what is going on inside the system. The psychologist would ask questions such as who are the family members.? What are the characteristic patterns of interaction in this system? What rules and roles form the boundaries of the system.? The focus is on the present rather than the past. The framework of reality are operating according to the principles of recursiveness and feedback/self -c...

We all need to make judgement on a daily bases about people and situations to help us make correct decisions and prevent disasters. A statement made by Urie Bronfenbrenner “that human beings create the environments that shape the course of human development” (Bronfenbrenner, 1979), is very true. We are living in our created reality. We are active producers of our own development. I intend to unpack and explain this in context how life Orientation at schools can be used to facilitate and develop individual health, school and community health. Teachers, plan a part in creating a healthy ecology in the schools. The overal...

The psychosocial developmental theory is an important component to consider when it comes to teaching. I will unpack this further to explain how a crisis in a child’s life can set them up for failure at school. Furthermore, I will explain the eight stages of development in relation to the South African context. Many children don’t succeed in passing all these stages successfully due to negative social and cultural influences. Finally, I will critically discuss the life of Hitler through th...

How does language policy play a role in education in South Africa

The South African educational system is still faced with many challenges just like the rest of the world. The reason for this is because children have learning disabilities and the school system has either tried removing these barriers in the mainstream schooling system or developed proper special educational schools or systems.

The Therapy method that I have found to be the most interesting and effective, is Albert Ellis’s Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT )

These are the unattached young adult, the newly married system, the family with adolescents, the launching and empty nest, and the family in later life
