Introduction:
We all need to make judgement on a daily bases about people and situations to help us make
correct decisions and prevent disasters. Teachers need to also make more professional
judgement in the classroom. This is done my reflection on teaching and critical events in the
classroom. I will discuss teachers views on AI in the classroom, and if teachers could be
replaced by robots in the near future. I will also discuss what the characteristics a human
teacher should have to make good judgements. And finally give my own examples and
refection and good judgements made by teachers and by me.
The teacher as a reflective practitioner
There are three competence that a teacher should have according to “ The norms and
Standards for educators (SA, 2000). This are practical, foundational and reflective skills. .
The teacher must make informed decisions when confronted with different actions. They
must use different teaching strategies to teach and also adapt these strategies according the
needs of the learners. In order to encourage critical and creative thinking. The teacher must
have the ability to change and explain why certain adjustments were made. And also reflect
on the quality of learning and teaching. The concept of reflect in action and reflect on action
means that reflecting while teaching is taking place and reflecting on action takes place after
a teaching experience. The aim of this is to learn from mistakes and plan better for the next
lesson. (Dottin, 2009)
Summary of articles
In this fourth industrial revolution we have seen the increase of AI in the work place. Even
the teaching industry is been affected by AI. The question that arises will Robert take the job
of teachers. The articles goes on to explain that teaching requires a complex set of skills and
disposition to make professional judgements to perform their tasks. “She or he will need to
use judgement in determining which tools of the profession, and the levels of the system, to
leverage in particular situations with individual learners when executing tasks” (Bakker
2016).Robots will however work alongside teachers and solve complex problems and issues
such as dealing with 60 students in a class. AI can be used for automatic grading, personal
