What is Psychology?

Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and human behavior. It studies how humans behave, think, make decisions and remember things, among many other functions.

Branches of Psychology

Psychology is a general field under which many distinct subfields exist. These subfields study varying topics which explain and try to understand the spectrum of human behavior. For instance, counseling psychology focuses on how counseling works, the techniques used in counseling, theoretical approaches to counseling, treatment planning, the diagnostic process and so on.

The Beginning of Psychology

Psychology began as a simple field of understanding the human mind and soul through the scope of philosophy, with theories of dualism for instance. These concepts merged with the biological aspect of scientific study, and created a more bio-psychological approach to understand the physical dimensions of a human being, rather than philosophical investigation into the human mind and soul.
