Task 3
A. The Eftects of the Civil Rights Movement
1. The Civil Rights Movement was another battle in the war against American
racism. Racial segregation and discrimination focused on black Americans in
public facilities, including educational facilities, government buildings, and private
businesses. Racially based voter suppression found eftect and power in denying
voting rights to people of color through poll taxes and literacy tests as well.
Inequities such as Jim Crow laws, created in response to increased freedom for
African Americans, found codiflcation in creating a system of discrimination and
exclusion that aftected African Americans for decades.
2. A signiflcant constitutional amendment that addressed the inequity in civil
rights was the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Granting voting rights protection, it was
a great legislative response against racist inequality. The Voting Rights Act
overcame legal barriers that prevented African Americans from executing their
rights as guaranteed under the 15th Amendment.
