During the eight-year war, sixteen provinces were subject to Iraqi bombing. The south of
Iran, in particular, was severely damaged. These attacks caused a large number of people
to flee to other cities.
The air raids on the country's infrastructure and their terrible consequences had
wide-ranging effects for the population. In various studies, it was concluded that the
destruction of residential buildings, refineries and industrial centres led to enormous
economic problems.
After the end of this conflict, many of those who had left the area decided to go back
home and to begin rebuilding their lives. Many, however, did not return at all.
