1. What were some of the key events, experiences and people that shaped your current
views of spirituality and religion? In what ways have they shaped and influenced
you?
Being born in a Christian family is one key factor responsible for my shaping my view of
spirituality and religion. My parents are staunch Christians and took us to church every Sunday.
They also instilled Christian values in us, including the need to mirror the teachings of the bible.
My perception for religion and spirituality have also been shaped by friends and colleagues. I
have attended a faith-based primary school, which built in me a strong religious foundation. I
also have found myself establishing close links with persons demonstrating positive characters
and good virtues, especially those who profess the Christian faith. I find myself fitting easily in
circles of friends and colleagues who believe in God and demonstrate important values like love,
kindness, patience and willingness to support others. It’s from these associations that I have
shaped my views of spirituality and religion
Events are experiences have also been responsible in my journey of conceptualizing
religion and spirituality. Am striking experience that I clearly remember was that of my mother’s
involvement in a grisly car accidents. She was taken to hospital unconscious. After a few weeks
of critical care, she regained her vigor, but her legs were still unresponsive. The doctors declared
her paralyzed, and that no corrective surgery could guarantee positive results. She refuted this,
saying that her God lives, and will see her through. Six months after enrolling in physiotherapy,
her legs gained some sensitiveness. She moved her toes the first time since the accident. This
sent her motivation high, and 12 months later, she could walk again. This was a key incident that
made me believe that there is God.
