LECOM Interview Questions AND Correct Answers
Does a multicultural approach to medicine work, or should physicians
use a one-size-fits-all approach? - ✔✔Medicine should be a
multicultural approach. Different cultures have different opinions and
practices in healthcare, which can sometimes lead to conflict between
provider and patient. It is the job of the doctor to provide care that is
the best fit for the patient, and this includes adhering to the patient's
beliefs. It is also important to note that cultural practices or lifestyles
can contribute to illness or disease. So acknowledging these
differences in medicine is important to improve the health of the
patient.

Give an example of a time you resolved a conflict. - ✔✔In my role as a
research assistant, my graduate supervisor was consistently late to
our biweekly meetings. Because of this, we were never able to finish
what we wanted to because I would have to leave for class, which put
us behind and our faculty advisor was not happy. I took the initiative
to approach my graduate advisor and discuss my concern for his
tardiness to our meetings and the stress it was causing me. After he
explained he was overbooked in the mornings on the days we were
scheduled to meet, I offered him an alternative solution that would
keep our research on schedule. In the end, we arranged to have our
meetings switched to the afternoons following my classes so we had
no time constraints when completing our procedures.

How do you deal with a stressful situation? - ✔✔When I get stressed, I
found that the best motivator is to take a step back to remember the
end result im working towards and break it into steps. Tackling the

, situation one step at a time allows me to prioritize what is most
important in a stressful situation, while also remaining positive so I
can work to my fullest potential.
When I was writing my first literature review paper for research, I got
very overwhelmed, so I made a list of all the topics I needed to write
about and assign it to a day. This allowed me to divide up my work
over a week and finish with ample of time to edit it. I was very proud
of my work at the end and was happy I created a plan.

How should physicians handle a non-compliant patient? - ✔✔It would
be my job as a doctor to provide my patient with the best quality care
in order to have the best health outcomes. Therefore, if the patient
was noncompliant, I would be understanding and try to educate them
on why I am making the medical decisions I am. Emphasizing the
positive outcomes of being compliant may make the patient more
likely to cooperate.

Med students have less empathy after med school than when they
enter. Do you agree? How do we prevent this? - ✔✔Despite it making
sense for medical students to become more empathetic throughout
medical school, I do agree with this statement. This is because
medical students often suffer from burnout from focusing on passing
exams to get a license to practice medicine. I think the philosophy
behind osteopathic medicine has a better approach to sustaining
empathy throughout medical school by focusing on the person as a
whole. I also believe decreasing empathy can be prevented by
teaching students to focus on relationship-centered communication.
