- What advice would you give yourself if you were just starting out in your career?
So tell me about yourself? - ANSWER Well, I am the oldest of three daughters from a
small town in Florida called Lutz, located right outside of Tampa. Since graduating from
the University of South Florida with my Bachelors in Biomedical Sciences and a minor in
history, one thing I've been doing in my free time is volunteering at a nonprofit
organization, called Revive and Restore, that serves those experiencing homelessness.
It's been a big problem in my community and I've learned so much by working with this
population, and it's one I want to continue working with. I have also have been
shadowing in the local emergency room 1-2 times a week for the last year, because I
really enjoy the fact that I see different conditions each day, and working in an
interventional pain management clinic as a scribe and medical assistant, but sometimes
as a surgical tech when needed. I have found that enjoy helping others in times of great
need, and communicating with patients across barriers. I am actively trying to learn the
Spanish by practicing with coworkers and using resources like Duolingo. In my free
time, I enjoy attending concerts of all genres, traveling, and going hiking when the
weather permits, which is not too often in Florida.
Why do you want to be a doctor and why do you want to specifically go to a D.O. school?
- ANSWER Medicine has been a constant in my life since the day when I was 7, and
arrived home with my parents only to witness a young boy fall out of the back of a truck.
It amazed me to see my father be the one to rush and provide him the acute care he
needed to get to the hospital.
After that moment, I remained in awe of the work one could do with this expertise. I grew
up surrounded by medicine in all capacities (With a father as a manager of
neurodiagnostics, aunt as a nuclear medicine tech, and stepmother as a x-ray tech). It
became clear to me that I want to be able to help people in a way no other profession
can.
One night while shadowing in the emergency room, I witnessed this firsthand when a
, patient arrived by EMS while having a STEMI. That night at 4 A.M, I was able to go to the
cath lab and observe the cardiologist place 3 stents after finding the patient had a
complete blockage of his left anterior descending artery, which is most commonly
known as the "widow maker." It was so impactful to see this life-saving care.
I specifically desire to attend an osteopathic school as I want to treat the whole self of
my future patients and not just symptoms.
As a medical scribe in an interventional pain management clinic, I have witnessed the
care of patients facing a variety of conditions from fractures to lumbar disc herniations
to different types of cancer. Where I have witnessed my provider give patients physical
therapy referrals and different exercises to help with healing, there is a significant
amount of medication prescribed. While I feel that medication is an excellent route for
treatment, I believe sometimes this is treating just superficial symptoms and not really
getting deeper to the core source of pain. I want to treat people initially with holistic
measures, provide tangible solutions unique to their si

various osteopathic medical institutions, ACOM immediately piqued my interest because
of its focus on outreach opportunities and extensive student organizations.
- As an undergraduate student, I became involved with a non-profit organization called
Revive and Restore, that aims to aid those facing homelessness and unstable shelter
within my community. I feel that becoming involved in the community in which I attend
school is essential to not only developing into a well-rounded physician, but also my
personal health, because I've been so active in my own community thus far. I feel that
ACOM's Samaritan clinic would be an amazing way to continue serving.
- Furthermore, the extensive student organizations of ACOM are really exciting as there
are a few, such as the emergency medicine interest group and ACOM Addiction
Information Coalition (AAIC), that are not often found amongst other schools.
- Emergency Medicine Interest Group would allow me to continue exploring my passion
