Methodology in Evidence-based Plan
Methodology is a crucial part of any research, and allows for a systematic and theoretical
approach to data collection, evaluation, and application of findings in a practical environment.
The research applies various strategies, techniques, and tools to attain the purpose. This is how
the researchers ensure valid, reliable, and actionable outcomes. One of the EBP plans in the
previous work required implementation of the falls prevention strategies. This essay will
compare the methodology used in the initial study with the chosen methodology, comparing the
advantages of each.
Methodology
The initial study utilized a qualitative study design, using a survey method to collect the
data. Surveys and interviews helped the researchers collect data from various sources; nurses,
patients, patient caregivers, families, and other healthcare professionals, and subordinate staff.
The study helped the researchers understand the practical elements of the same, including the
barriers and facilitators for effective interventions. However, the study was conducted in a short
period, and the outcomes were subjective with a small sample, which could have affected the
generalizability and applicability of the outcomes.
The longitudinal study method is preferred because it provides data for a prolonged period
for easier comparison. The method calls for a prospective data collection where the phenomenon
is studied over a prolonged period to determine the causes, timing, and establish the causal
relationship between the elements (Kim, 2021). The longitudinal study will be required to
determine the causative elements, including the factors strongly associated with the falls and the
most effective interventions. Using this study, the interventions will be measured over time,
determining the most practical and applicable interventions for the healthcare facility. For
