, LEFT HEART FAILURE
Fluid backs up into the Lung (pulmonary Edema)
Left sided heart failure can lead to complications on ri
side
Causes: [Lifestyle Risk Changes]
• Non-modifiable Risk factors: Family history, Age, Race or ethnicity
• Modifiable Risk Factors: Unhealthy diet, Alcohol use, Lack of physical activity
Clinical manifestations:
• Pulmonary Congestion: within lung but not the air sacs
• Cough, Crackles, Wheezing
• Blood-tinged Sputum (inflammation)
• Cyanosis
• Tachypnea, Orthopnea,
• Dyspnea on exertion and Nocturnal
LEFT
• Elevated Pulmonary Capillary Wedge Pressure
• Confusion, Fatigue, Restless LEADS to
• Tachycardia RIGHT
Causes Pulmonary Edema Impaired Gas
Exchange
Advanced condition involves fluid filling into air sacs, Pink Frothy sputum
, Right-Sided Heart Failure
Fluid backs up into the REST of the Body
Right-sided HF is usually caused by left-sided H
Causes:
• Heart conditions: Left-sided HF, Congenital heart defects,
Heart infections, Heart muscle damage
• Lung Conditions: Pulmonary HTN, Pulmonary embolism, COPD
Other conditions: Diabetes, HIV, Thyroid pro
Clinical manifestations: Blood backs
• Jugular vein distention up from lungs
• Increased abdominal girth [LHF], putting
• Dependent edema extra pressure
• Ascites, Hepatomegaly, enlarged Spleenon the R-
