hydrolysis of ATP works by the release of a phosphoryl group as it goes from a high

ANSWER-Synthesis of biomolecules: Formation of fats from triglycerides.
Contraction of Muscles: Breakdown of ATP to fuel the rxn in excitation- contraction
coupling.
Ion movements: Required energy source for active transporters.

What is gibbs free energy, and what is the equation used to determine it? -
ANSWER-Gibbs free energy is the sum totally of all the energy requirements and
expenditures within a given set of rxn's. It is essentially the difference in energy
between the products and reactants in a reaction. If the produce is at a higher
energy state than the reactants, you are essentially violating the laws of
thermodynamics and it is an endothermic rxn. Oppositely is exothermic

What are the three main types of metabolic pathways? - ANSWER-Linear,
Branched, and circular

What is meant by the term "interconnected" in metabolism? - ANSWER-This is
where one of the intermediates of a metabolic pathway can feed into, or is the start
of, another. Alothough there is this connectedness, individual parts or pathways can
still be tightly regulated individually.

What is another name, and common function of the first reaction in a pathway? -
ANSWER-This is commonly called the first committed step in a pathway. It is often a
main point of regulation in a pathway, and is often rate limiting.

What is the effect of enzymes on an equalibrium constant? - ANSWER-There is no
effect of enzymes on an equalibrium constant. It simply speeds up the rate of
reaching such an equalibrium.

What information can be derived from a delta G value? - ANSWER-Only information
on if the reaction will occur spontaneously or not can be cleaved from this value. It
does not tell you about the concentrations, pathway, or rate of the pathway.

What is the relationship between Keq and G? - ANSWER-Keq will be less than 1 for
an endergonic reaction
Keq will be greater than 1 for an exergonic reaction
