2 virus. Since its emergence in late 2019, COVID-19 has caused widespread morbidity
and mortality and has required repeated community-level interventions to control
transmission. This paper summarizes the development of COVID-19 in communities,
evidence-based steps to address proliferation, and practical community interventions
supported by public health organizations and peer-reviewed studies.

SARS-CoV-2 spreads primarily through respiratory droplets and aerosols during close
contact; community transmission is driven by indoor gatherings, high population density,
