COUN 5279: Life Planning and Career Development
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to propose funding for a new career counseling
program. Career Transitions for Young Women with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder is a program dedicated to women who suffer from ADHD and have trouble
finding jobs because of it. This program will help women who suffer from ADHD find
what career field interests them
& how to go about getting into the said field. As you read further, you will find the
mission, objectives, and purpose of this program, along with a chart of what will
happen each week during both individual and group program sessions.

Plan
Women with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) face unique
challenges that often go unrecognized and untreated. Historically, ADHD has been
perceived as a condition primarily affecting young boys, leading to significant
underdiagnosis in women. This
discrepancy results in many women struggling with symptoms that can impact their
personal and professional lives. Studies indicate that women with ADHD are more likely to
experience co- occurring mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, further
complicating their daily functioning (Nussbaum, 2012). Additionally, the societal
expectations placed on women can exacerbate the difficulties at hand, making tailored
support and interventions crucial (Quinn & Madhoo, 2014). Addressing these needs
through specialized career counseling and support programs can significantly improve
their quality of life and professional success.
Diverse
Population
Women with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) represent a subset
of the population that experiences the core symptoms of ADHD—such as inattention,
hyperactivity, and impulsivity—in unique ways that are often overlooked or
misunderstood. ADHD in women can manifest differently than in men, with a higher
prevalence of inattentive symptoms and emotional dysregulation, leading to frequent
underdiagnosis and misdiagnosis (Quinn & Madhoo, 2014).
