Edward – Act 2
o Gets suspended from school, due to the locket
o Says swears to his teacher that he learned from Mickey, highlights to constant
connection and feeling desperate to be like Mickey
o Still wears the locket that Mrs Johnstone gave him – shows the connection these
character’s have, without directly showing that Edward is aware he is Mrs
Johnstone’s son and Mickeys Twin
o Moves away to a boarding school and only returns in half terms
o This results in him becoming more distant from Mickey and Linda due to the distance
in their friendships
o Is a loyal friend as teenager
o Puts Mickey’s feelings before his own (Hides his feelings for Linda for quite a while as
he is aware that Mickey and Linda are right for each other)
o Encourages Mickey to confess his love for Linda
o Starts to drift away from his overprotective mother and becomes more independent
and is aware of who he is now
o Successful, independent
o Goes to Oxford University
o Declares his love for Linda before he leaves for university – also asks Linda to marry
him when he returns from university upon her request
o Becomes councillor Lyons
o Has an affair with Linda after confessing love, Mrs Lyons becomes aware of this
o Tries to help Mickey get a job
o Encourages Mickey to get his life together so that he can support Linda and his child
o Lacks understanding of Mickey’s feelings when he is fired and therefore becomes
unemployed – tries his best to emphasise with his situation, just makes Mickey
jealous
o Murdered by Mickey with a gun in the town hall
o Murdered just after he finds out from Mrs Johnstone that he and Mickey are actually
twins and that Mrs Lyons therefore isn’t his biological mother
o Murdered through an act of jealous ( and partly accident as Mickey was waving the
gun around)
